The Wallenstein Palace and gardens date back to the early 1600s. These were originally built to outshine the Prague Castle which is built just about these grounds.

Uncle Stephen loved to play this game as much as his nephew and niece.

These next pictures are of the Church of St. Cyril and St. Methodius. This church was built in 1730 and played an important part in Czech history. In May 1942 parachutists who had assassinated Reinhard Heydrich, the Nazi governor of Czechoslovakia, hid in the crypt along with members of the Czech Resistance. Surrounded by German troops, they took their own lives rather than surrender.

Opening where the Germans put gas hoses and water hoses to try and flush out the rebels. Here is where the Czech tried to chop their way out of the crypt into the Prague sewer system.

Entrance where the German soldiers entered the crypt before they where "mowed down" the the members of the resistance army.

Back to the church. Bullet holes made by the German machine guns during the seige can still be seen below the memorial plaque on the outer wall of the crypt which now houses a museaum of these times.
